As usual we have lots of great events coming up over the next few weeks to really get you in the mood.
On Sunday 11th December we have our always amazing Carol Service with the Hope Gospel Choir putting in another fantastic performance.
Come along ready to get involved on Sunday 18th December at our ‘Nativity from Scratch‘. It’s your chance to be part of the Christmas story. Come along dressed as a character, or animal, from the Christmas story and act your part along with everyone else. (Or you can just sit back and watch people making a fool of themselves!) Have a look at the pictures from last year.
Then just before the big day, on Christmas Eve, come along at 11:30pm to our Midnight Communion and welcome in Christmas day focussing on the real reason for the season.
And finally, after all the build up, on Christmas Day, lets get together for Christmas Family Praise. It will be a short service starting at 10:30am.
We would love to see you at any or all of the above and hope you have a really good Christmas.
See other events going on around Tameside churches.
Green Gable, Great Gable, Styhead Tarn, Sprinkling Tarn, Sourmilk Gill – all magical sounding places in the heart of Borrowdale in the Lake District.
That was the setting for our men’s weekend away from 18th-20th November. To go walking in the Lake District in November is at best risky and at worst foolhardy, but we were blessed with amazing weather and stunning views.
True, our first meal got accidentally left at home and one car went to the wrong location (for future reference there are three Seathwaites in the Lake District – make sure you get the right one if you’re heading there!) Yet in spite of everything we had a great weekend together, thinking about God and getting to know each other better. Looking forward to the next one already.
The next ‘One’ event is going to be held here at Holy Trinity Stalybridge on Sunday 20th which is also going to be ‘One’s very first Birthday.
It starts at 6:15 and will run until 8:30. There will be inspirational words for the main speaker, worship led by James Neal as well as fun, food and friendship.
It’s open to any young people aged 14+ and will be an awesome night. So go tell your friends and get them along. Or if you are the parent of teenagers tell them and their friends and any other parents you know with teenagers. See you there.
About forty children and a bunch of whacky leaders had a great time ‘Going Bananas’ a couple of weeks ago when we held a Children’s Holiday week on – you guessed it – Banana Island.
Each morning involved a variety of songs, craft, bananaerobics (activity), banana splits (refreshments) and a story time with a Bible character who arrived in a time shed! We had a fantastic time in our banana bunches and were sad when the time came to split!!
A small medical team has just returned from a time in Sighisoara, Romania working with our friends who are based out there.
They visited the gypsy villages and did basic health checks and also distributed babygrows that had been screen printed by members of our youth group and other gifts donated and made by members of the congregation.
They had a wonderful time sharing a little of God’s love!
It seems an unlikely twinning but Holy Trinity Church were delighted to welcome a group of 13 high school students from the Church of the Ascension in Clearwater, Florida last week.
The students were on a visit to England and had already been to Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Lichfield Cathedral and York Minster looking at sites of early Christian worship.
They then joined us for a couple of days to serve and help with the work of the church here. They painted railings, did some painting and decorating, helped in a local school and generally worked their socks off! It was a great few days and many new friendships were formed which we hope will continue. We were really sad to see them go.
After the great success of last years Father’s day breakfast we thought we would do it again. It’s a great way to treat the fathers out there. And if you can’t get your own father get someone elses! Details in the flyer below.
If you want a ticket then please just email the office or see Cris at church on Sunday.
This year’s annual Stalybridge Splash festival was yet another fantastic time – despite the rain early in the day! Splash has been running now for 11 years and Holy Trinity church has been involved from the beginning.
It is one of the highlights of our calendar – not just because we get to serve our community in new and exciting ways but also because it’s great working together as a team to make it happen. This year was no different.
The day started with a full peal of the church bells being ringing out across Stalybridge. Inside the church we were offering a full cafe with the usual array of tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches and more. We also had puppet shows for the children – and the adults! – and a great children’s craft area. An Art Project invited people to paint squares that were then assembled on a large board to give a message of hope and the amazing Hope Choir performed some great gospel songs during the day to keep up the sense of fun and celebration. All in all, a great day!
