The E100 ChallengeJanuary 14th, 2011

At the beginning of this year we are challenging everyone to take up the E100 challenge – read 100 key passages from the bible over the period of the year. That’s 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New. We like the sound of it because it’s easily achievable and comes with a great reward – getting to know your Bible and God better!

There’s a leaflet with more information about the challenge, which shows all the verses available from Church. Alternatively you can download it,  and see various other resources, at the E100 Challenge Website.

Many at Church have already shown interest, why not join them, set aside some time, get your friends involved and together we can encourage each other to complete the challenge.

Street Pastors Need YouNovember 29th, 2010

Street Pastors have been operating in Stalybridge since July and are really enjoying their work.  The Street Pastors are members of different churches in Stalybridge and from further afield and their main role is to make themselves available to listen, care, support, to help people to feel safe in their neighbourhood and to give assistance when needed.  Though the Christian faith is at the heart of what they do, it is not at the forefront of what they say.  Street Pastors are not about preaching but rather a practical demonstration of God’s love.

But right now they need more volunteers for their work in Stalybridge – could you do this work? The training takes one year and starts in February. Contact the church office for more information.

Christmas ShoeboxesNovember 26th, 2010

As you may know we support the work of two missionaries in Sighisoara, Romania, who do life changing work with the gypsy communities in that area. The gypsy community there are extremely poor and seen as outcasts by the rest of society. Christmas can be an extremely hard time for them and especially the harsh winters. So as suggested by our missionary friends this year we are sending shoe boxes of presents for the Life Centre there to hand out.

So we would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all who helped fill shoeboxes with Christmas gifts.  These were collected last week and will soon be winging their way to Gypsy villages around Sighisoara in Romania where we pray they will bring a reminder of God’s love.

The ‘One’ Youth ServiceNovember 23rd, 2010

Last Sunday saw the first of a series of planned Youth events, bringing together youth clubs from all over the area.

Holy Trinity Stalybridge was extremely happy to be the hosts for this first event which saw around a hundred youngsters gather for worship, an interactive talk, some ingenious games and of course food!

I think it is safe to say the first ‘One’ was a great success and we eagerly look forward to the next one planned for Sunday 13th February at Eden, Hattersly, 6:15pm. Why not think about coming along, or asking your children or Youth club if they would like to get involved, it’s for age 14+. Contact Tracy Morgan at the church office for further information – 0160 304 9308 or tracy@holytrinity.stalybridge.org.

Just for MenOctober 6th, 2010

The Men’ Events have started up again recently at Holy Trinity. The purpose of these events is to have some fun together and get to know each other a little bit more.

We started off with another superb Curry at the always tasty Herb and Spice, Dukinfield. It was a fantastic night of good conversation and lots of big laughs. It was good talking with some of the people that you normally only get to chat with quickly on a Sunday morning.

Well the next night is planned for 7:30, Friday 15th October at St Matthews and will cost just £2. It’s going to be a bit of a motor racing spectacular. Featuring the largest digital Scalextric we could get our hands on (even James May would be impressed). And some other electronic means of F1 and Rally racing!

And, just so you aren’t racing on an empty stomach we will also have a range of chilli and rice from the racy F1 strength down to the Fiat Cinquecento strength!

Of course if you aren’t into all that car stuff then come along anyway as there will be plenty of comfy seats, pots of tea and coffee and lots of nice people to talk to; and maybe a walk along to the Buffet bar afterwards as well.

Upcoming Alpha CourseSeptember 8th, 2010

the alpha logo

Every year thousands of people from around the world explore the meaning of life and find answers to questions about the Christian faith by attending an Alpha course. The course at Holy Trinity will run on Monday evenings and starts on Monday October 4th. Each evening begins with a meal together, then we watch a DVD together and then we go into groups to discuss what we’ve watched. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to but the discussion is usually very lively!

Doing Alpha is a great way of exploring the Christian faith but also a way of renewing and refreshing your faith – or a way of finding some answers to questions that you’ve always had but didn’t dare ask! Would you like to join us? Or maybe you have a friend or neighbour who would like to? If you are interested then just fill out the form below and we will be in touch as soon as possible. Or contact the church office on 0161 304 9308.

Visit the Alpha Website to find out even more. Or if you would like to explore Christianity more why not try the rejesus website.

Podcast/Sermons on iTunesAugust 25th, 2010

Some of you may have noticed that the website has changed slightly. You can now listen to the weekly sermons straight from our website and even listen to the latest sermon straight from the home page; as well as see the latest news sheet.

These changes have been possible because quite a lot of the background to the website structure has been updated. This makes it possible for those of us who work on the website to make changes much easier and quicker. It will also allow us to add new features in the future.

One of the other outcomes of this change is that those of you who have subscribed through iTunes or other podcast programmes to receive the sermons automatically as they are added to the website will have to re-subscribe. Please now use the following address: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=388607809 or just click on the iTunes image above.

We hope you like the changes but if you would like to make any comments then please just email the office at admin@holytrinity.stalybridge.org or talk to Matthew Laver.

New Wine 2010August 9th, 2010

This last week was New Wine 2010 North and East and around 16 of us from the church went along for the week. It was a great time of meeting with God, living together with thousands of other christians and generally having a good time.

There was a packed timetable with something for everyone almost all the time including evening concerts, entertainment, and some amazing groups and activities for the children. Most evenings were then finished off by sitting together with a warming drink and chatting into the night.

It was a fantastic time and we would encourage everyone to come next year.

Here is a short slideshow to give you a flavour of the week:
